Label TextRemington portrayed the sometimes-tedious sport of fishing. This image was the cover illustration for Harper’s Bazar, July 1, 1899. The artist said that two per cent of the time was “the tingle of which comes from fighting a gamy trout.” The other 98 was “sitting in the rain just fishing.” Remington took joy in painting the subject. He told an interviewer, “I went up there and fished for two weeks in the rain. I am trying to think how to make the rain appear to strike and bounce from the water. You know how water looks when it is raining.”
