Label TextBorn at the San Ildefonso Pueblo, Maria Martinez learned the art of pottery making at a young age from an aunt. She married Julian Martinez, and the two began to collaborate artistically. Maria produced plain black pottery, and Julian decorated the earthenware with black-on-black designs. Maria and Julian jointly signed many pieces of their pottery.
