Label TextIn 1859 Bierstadt made his first trip to the American West. He found a landscape that would inspire him throughout his career. The artist traveled with Colonel Ferdinand Lander’s expedition along the Overland Trail. Bierstadt explored and sketched the Wind River Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountains.
