Label TextBerninghaus created a scene of respite in the Old West. Saddled ponies wait outside a false-fronted building. The square façade indicates a commercial building, like a saloon. The depiction of falling snow and the muted colors create a chill. Berninghaus painted the warm glow of firelight shining through windows to create a contrast. The ponies remain so faithful to their riders that they wait without being tied. Berninghaus created a wistful view of the West of the past with its resting place and faithful ponies.
