Label TextThe inscription that Joseph Henry Sharp wrote on the back of this painting is especially necessary for identifying the site. He wrote (in part), “Coconino Forest-/ Grand Canon, Ariz.” Most viewers would not expect that this dense forest depicted either the Grand Canyon or Arizona. Sharp traveled several times to the Grand Canyon area. There he painted the awesome drama of the rocky canyon. He also appreciated the beauty of nearby Coconino Forest. His depiction of the light breaking through the pine trees created a different type of landscape beauty. Connect with Barry Anderson’s Four Trees, Arizona.
