Label TextIn Winter Walk, Higgins depicted fragments of the architecture he viewed as he surveyed the village of Taos. He used a modernist style to portray the buildings that he encountered over time. The oval shape of his images gives the idea of a circular, not linear path. He included mundane buildings such as a gas station. He made a focal point with the sky-reaching steeple of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The iconic shape of Taos Pueblo, home to the Taos Indian people, is apparent, even with Higgins’ abstraction.
ProvenancePurchased November 16, 1959 through (Jane Hiatt, The Village Gallery, Taos, New Mexico) by H.J. Lutcher Stark [1887-1965]; bequeathed September 2, 1965 to the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation; accessioned to the Stark Museum of Art
