Label Text:Black’s cowboy presents a bold image. The artist placed the cowboy on his horse in front of the pattern of the corral fence. The background is a brilliant red orange. Only a few colors are used to make a striking image. The cowboy’s dress includes practical items. He wears a vest. Vests gave protection but left the arms free. Usually they had pockets, useful for storage. His chaps worn over his pants also gave protection. For decoration, his chaps have conchos, metal ornaments.

Provenance: Laverne Nelson Black's sister; (Carlton Palmer, Atlantla, Georgia) purchased February 15, 1959 by H.J. Lutcher Stark [1887-1965]; bequeathed September 2, 1965 to the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation; accessioned to the Stark Museum of Art
