Label Text:Georgia O’Keeffe depicted a dead cedar tree located in the red hills of Ghost Ranch. By magnifying and cropping the elegant, simplified form of the tree and juxtaposing it with the sweeping alluvial folds of the red hills, she transformed the ordinary into something abstract and mysterious. She named the tree after author and friend Gerald Heard, who was enamored with it while visiting her in New Mexico.
