DescriptionClassic Apache burden basket.Label TextThe semi-nomadic Apache people wove conical baskets from plant materials. They used these to gather and carry food or firewood. The weaver of this basket used the plant colors to design a pattern. Burden baskets became part of the furnishings of the Apache wickiup. The family could hang the baskets at the door. The wickiup was a dome-shaped dwelling, made from a frame of tree saplings. Brushwood or grass covered the frame.
