Label TextThe two figures in this double portrait are identified in Kane's Portrait Log. In it Kane described the figure on the left as; "A You-calltee (Eucaltee) Indian. These Indians are the dread of all the neighbouring tribes. They live in Johnston's St. They watch their opportunity and when the Indians of the Gulf of Georgia entered for the purpose of fishing, they pounce upon them and woe be to the poor devil that is caught alone. They frighten their children with the name of a You-call-tee." The figure on the right he identifies as "A Nesqually girl with grass cap on her head."
