Label TextRussell’s letter to fellow artist Philip R. Goodwin points to the importance of artistic colleagues. In the opening sentences, Russell referred to their ongoing correspondence. They exchanged sketches of paintings they were making. Russell invited Goodwin to return and visit him in Montana. Russell illustrated the letter with a watercolor remembering their prior sketching trip. In the image, the two artists ride horseback into the woods to study from nature. Each artist learned from the other. Connect with R.W. Fichter’s DC’s Prints on Porch and E.S. Curtis’s Karok Baskets.
