DescriptionHand woven with geometric designs.

Label TextYucca is one of the plants used by the O’odham for weaving beautiful baskets. The weavers use the natural colors of the materials to make the designs. The light shade is from the yucca. The dark is from devil’s claw. Most designs are geometric like the plaque with the central motif that radiates out (62.900.40.A). The other plaque (62.900.40.B) features a pattern known as the “man in the maze.” It shows a human figure entering a labyrinth. In making these miniature baskets, the weavers demonstrated their mastery of the medium. Connect with Todd Walker’s Yucca.
