Label TextThis portrait was probably sketched at Jasper House. Kane identified the subject in his Portrait Log: "A-Chis-a-lay. The Call of the Wind. The As-ick-an-a tribe from Peace River, called by Sir A. Mackenzie the Carriers (for carrying great burthens on their backs having no beasts of burthen to substitute). Then teeth are worn down by eating dried salmon, his food being full of sand."
