Label TextRussell and many of his associates longed for the West that had passed. In this letter Russell illustrated an event when his friend Charles Schatzlein dressed up in the clothing from another time and people. Russell, who likewise would don American Indian clothing on occasion, demonstrated his admiration of American Indian people, yet the language of this letter also shows his stereotyped views.
