Description4 colorsLabel TextTo create a wood block print, the artist first sketches an idea of the image he wants. He then plans each color separately. He sketches the first color areas on heavy brown paper with a graphite pencil or charcoal. He next places it over a wood block. He then traces the image in pencil with carbon paper beneath it. The artist then carves the design into the wood block by cutting out the areas he does not want to print. He makes a separate block for each color. He then prints each color block on a piece of paper. The final print is the result of the planned mix of colors.
