DescriptionGuide is two pieces of paper.
Label Text:H.J. Lutcher Stark purchased the painting Ourselves and Taos Neighbors from the artist. Blumenschein sent Mr. and Mrs. Stark two guides identifying and commenting on the people he portrayed. He handwrote the guides in ink on “extra good paper.” The artist recommended that the Starks frame the handwritten sheets and hang them by the painting. He did not want the guides printed. He wrote, “this sloppy writing rather adds to the intimacy and charm of my picture.” To honor Blumenschein’s wish while preserving the original documents, the Stark Museum of Art has reproduced them photographically.
