Label TextFamily: Corvidae (Crows, Jays, and Magpies) Scientific name: Cyanocorax yncas (common name: Green Jay) Edward Marshall Boehm’s sculpture of a pair of Green Jays has a Texas connection. “Green Jays with Black Persimmon” portrays a member of the Corvidae family. They are related to the more widely known Blue Jays. Green Jays are a Texas bird, but in the United States they appear only in South Texas. They are tropical birds, and Boehm depicted beautifully their vivid colors of green, yellow, and blue. He appropriately set them on gnarly branches of the Black Persimmon tree, also known as Texas Persimmon (Diospyros texana).
