Label TextLithographer-publisher Louis Prang (1824-1909) produced a portfolio of stunning chromolithographs of Moran’s landscapes. This print resulted from Moran’s trip to the Yellowstone region as part of Ferdinand Hayden’s 1871 expedition. Moran worked closely with the expedition’s photographer William Henry Jackson. Moran’s watercolor sketches and Jackson’s photographs were shown to members of Congress and helped to convince the government to set aside Yellowstone as a national park.
