Label Text:In Maynard Dixon’s painting, the dramatic sky fills two-thirds of the picture plane, emphasizing the geographic expanse of the West. The artist composed the landscape as a series of repeating horizontal bands. They stretch across the picture plane with no boundaries, creating an idea of the immensity of the West.
