Label TextBakos chose to live in an invigorating environment. He grew up in the Polish immigrant community of Buffalo, New York. After art school, he traveled west and made his way to Santa Fe, New Mexico. There he found inspiration for his modernist landscape paintings. He also found other artists with similar interests and formed a group. They called themselves “Los Cincos Pintores,” the five painters. In 1921, he and other members of the group constructed their own adobe houses near each other along the Camino del Monte Sol in Santa Fe.
