Label TextFloral still life paintings inspired Kenda North. “The French term for still life is ‘nature morte’ (dead nature) which has a rather sad inference, yet my bouquets are indeed dying.” She explained that a florist made elaborate arrangements for events. Then the flowers returned to the florist. “I rescued them for a last hurrah, suspended in a pool and bathed in summer sunlight. While being photographed they are never still; they respond to my movements underwater and struggle to disengage from their tight arrangements to float away. Caught in an ambiguous space of water and light, their beauty is captured in a final moment of life.” Connect with J.H.
