Label TextJohn James Audubon described the Little Sandpiper as a “humble, but extremely interesting bird.” He described many places he had observed the bird to show that he obtained his knowledge from field study. In Labrador, he observed its breeding grounds. In Henderson, Kentucky, he frequently saw large flocks of this bird on the sandy shores of the river. When he visited Texas in 1837, he found them numerous along the coast. The common name for this bird today is the Least Sandpiper.
