DescriptionQuilted vase depicting Buffalo Soldiers. Layered quilted human figures interspersed with leaves on a coiled vase form.Label TextCarolyn Crump wrote an artist’s statement about 10th Cavalry Regiment. “The 10th Cavalry was one of the original ‘Buffalo Soldier’ regiments in the post–Civil War Regular Army. I wanted this vase to represent their service and contributions to the nation but also I wanted to pay homage to my relatives and friends who did their part to protect the freedoms that we enjoy in this great nation. It was personal to me which is why I wanted to create the inside weaving as a reflection of how we are a part of the fabric of this nation.”
