Label TextKleiser used a story from the Bible for this tapestry. The Book of 1 Samuel tells of David, who would become King of Israel. David planned to lead his troops in an attack on Nabal, a rich man who had offended David. Nabal’s wife brought gifts of bread, wine, figs, and other foods to David. She pleaded, and David agreed not to cause bloodshed. David and Abigail is a story of peace and reconciliation. Kleiser said that the inspiration for this work came from the late sixteenth century Flemish Renaissance. Shields in the border evoke the nobility.
