Donald Pollard

Pollard joined the Steuben design staff in 1950. A designer and painter, he was born in Bronxville, New York, in 1924. At the Rhode Island School of Design, he worked in silver under the trainee program of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Later, he Worked for a time in architectural theater design, and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Over a long career with Steuben, he designed many decorative and functional pieces, including The Great Ring of Canada, which was presented by the president and people of the United States to the prime minister and people of Canada on the Centenary of Canada's nationhood. His masterwork, the Crown of Oberon, was introduced in 1982 as the centerpiece of a retrospective exhibition of Pollard's works organized to mark his retirement after thirty years at Steuben.
