BiographyFounded before 1831 by Cephas G. Childs. Childs sold his interest to Peter S. Duval and George Lehman in 1834 and the company became known as Lehman & Duval (1834-1837). Lehman resigned in 1837 and the company became known as P.S. Duval's Lithographic Establishment (1837-1839). In 1838 William M. Huddy joined the company's name changed to Huddy & Duval till 1840. By 1848 the lithographic presses were run by steam, and the company name was P.S. Duval & Co's Steam Lithographic Press.

In 1857 Peter S. Duval's son Stephen C. Duval joined the firm and the name changed to P.S. Duval and Son, in 1869 Peter S. Duval retrired. His son continued the business and was joined by Thomas Hunter. The partnership broke up in 1874 leaving Hunter to continued the company under his own name.
