DescriptionFeatures artwork by Ila McAfeeLabel TextArtists in Taos produced calendars as a way to bring their art to larger audiences. The calendars also produced extra income. McAfee’s Calendar of the Southwest features a scene of Christmas Eve at Taos Pueblo on the cover. Worshippers gather at the San Geronimo Church for evening services and a procession. McAfee portrayed the torches used in the procession and a small fire, evocative of the large bonfires lit for the event. In black and white, she conveyed the intensity of the fires by using white spaces with lines radiating outward.
