Label TextIn 1873-74 two French-born artists, Jules Tavernier and Paul Frenzeny, traveled across the United States to produce illustrations of the West on assignment from Harper’s Weekly magazine. Tavernier visited Red Cloud Agency (in present-day Nebraska) where he made numerous sketches of the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Lakota. After settling in San Francisco, the artist produced this painting depicting changes in weaponry on the Plains.
