Label TextLucy Audubon, wife of John James Audubon, obtained a teaching position at Beech Woods plantation in Louisiana. As Lucy wrote to her cousin Euphemia Gifford, John James Audubon was in England seeking a publisher for The Birds of America. Lucy’s salary made it possible for her husband to travel there and to realize the “fruits of his Labours.”
