Label TextHiggins’s painting is titled Yellow Bowl, and the pictorial space is dominated by the still life arrangement of objects on a table. But the meaning of the painting may reside in the background. The adobe house, partially shown, is the home Higgins lost when his marriage to Sara Parsons ended in divorce in 1924. By painting the house, he may have found a way to keep it, even if he could only view the exterior. Higgins later bought the house and lived in it again.
