Label TextThis pot comes from clay gathered locally from near the Pueblo. The clay is named “red clay,” because it has iron oxide in it that gives it color. Colors can vary to a rust or terracotta, especially after the clay pot is fired in an outdoor pit. Notice especially the base of this pot, with a more orange shade. The word terracotta translates as “cooked earth.”
