Label TextIn September of 1846, Paul Kane stayed at Fort Edmonton during his cross-continental journey. He wrote, "One day, whilst wandering some distance to the south of the fort, I saw two Assiniboine Indians hunting buffaloes. One was armed with a spear . . . the other with a bow formed of ash, with the sinews of a buffalo gummed to the back of it. These they use with great dexterity and force; I have known an instance of the arrows passing through the body of the animal, and sticking in the ground at the opposite side."
