Label TextBonfires and burning torches provide an orange glow for a sacred scene. Young-Hunter portrayed the Christmas Eve procession after mass at the Catholic church. Taos Puebloans carry and walk with a statue of the Virgin Mary throughout the pueblo. Young-Hunter is an observer of the tradition. The glowing light is in the distance, and the artist’s composition of the painting obscures the procession and the statue, creating a sense of mystery.
