DescriptionFrame carved by Fechin.Label TextNicolai Fechin used charcoal for this sensitive portrait of his father. Ivan Alexandrovitch Fechin (unknown birth date-1918) was a woodcarver and gilder. Young Nicolai obtained his first artistic training in his father’s workshop. The father then encouraged Nicolai to go to art school. Ivan Fechin remained a vital influence on the artist. Nicolai portrayed his father in numerous paintings and drawings. The artist created some of the portraits from memory after the father’s death.
