DescriptionHorizontal oil painting of a two story adobe building with blue framed windows and a balcony on the second floor. The balcony faces towards a one story adobe building behind it. There are scattered low plants in the foreground and two larger plants to the right of the image in front of the one story building. A dark mountain rises in the background and clouds cover most of the visible sky.

Label TextWhen Fechin moved to Taos, he bought an adobe house similar to the one he depicted in this painting. He remodeled and expanded his home extensively. Nicolai Fechin’s daughter Eya wrote about her father as a builder. She noted, “He was enchanted with adobe, the houses that grew out of the ground and changed color as the sun moved.”
