DescriptionPreliminary sketch for a magazine cover for Collier’s magazine. Represents a fisherman standing in a relaxed pose with his fishing pole. He wears knee high boots, tackle bag and hat with fishing fly attached. This work of art has a pencil drawing on the reverse side of the sheet.Label TextAs a boy, Dunton hunted and fished with his grandfather in Maine. Outdoor sports remained part of his life when he moved to Taos, New Mexico. The artist made this preliminary sketch of a fisherman as an idea for a magazine cover. The angler stands in a relaxed pose with his rod cradled against his body. He wears knee high boots, a tackle bag, and a hat with a fishing fly attached. He looks down at a not-quite identifiable object. Is it gear? Or, is it a camera? As he rests from active fishing, is the angler now capturing nature on film?
