Label TextIn 1847 the Canadian artist Paul Kane witnessed a sight that few others at that time had seen - the eruption of a volcano, Mount St. Helens. An artist with a documentary bent, Kane has journeyed from his home in Toronto "determined to devote whatever talents and proficiency I possessed to the painting of a series of paintings illustrative of the North American Indians and scenery."
