Label TextIn the latter part of his career, Dunton painted landscapes that were based on nature, but abstracted. In Taos in October, the autumn trees and the sagebrush are organic shapes that form patterns on the canvas. Tucked in the picture are two cows. The light falling on one of the cows creates orange highlights that echo shades of orange in the trees. Dunton created an idyllic scene.
