Label TextThe Kiowa artists studied at the University of Oklahoma. Oscar Brousse Jacobson directed the School of Art there. He encouraged the Kiowa artists. Jacobson commissioned the portfolio of their art. He wrote the introduction for Kiowa Indian Art. His writing included stereotypes and dated language, but he did champion their work. He called it “a real contribution to art.” Mopope had sixteen works in the portfolio. He depicted families, warriors, and dances. The Kiowa adopted Eagle Dance from the Pueblo people.
