Label TextSchreyvogel’s paintings fueled a fascination with conflict in the American West. Here he depicted Army soldiers protecting their troop. The artist emphasized the weapons of the military. He focused attention on the firing revolver of the central trooper. The trooper in the middle ground has drawn his revolver from the holster and is about to aim. His weapon would be directed toward the viewer. In this way Schreyvogel engaged his audience in the action.
