Label TextCurtis published images and text on the Lakota, or Teton Sioux, in the third volume. He said that this striking photograph was made at Sheep Mountain. It is located in the Bad Lands of Pine Ridge reservation, South Dakota. In this photograph, the barren landscape creates a harsh setting for the war bonnet-wearing riders.
