Label TextRedouté was a leading botanical artist in France. He excelled in technical accuracy and the beauty of his work. Redouté served as a court artist for Queen Marie Antoinette. Later he had patronage from both of Napoleon’s wives. He remains best known for his depictions of roses and lilies. He also illustrated a History of Succulent Plants, depicting plants that hold water in their tissues. This rendition of a kalanchoe shows the delicate orange flowers of this succulent.
