Atterbury Glass Company was founded by brothers James and Thomas Atterbury, the grandsons of Sarah Bakewell Atterbury (sister of Benjamin Bakewell and Lucy Bakewell Audubon's aunt) and their brother-in-law James Hale. It was located on Pittsburgh’s south side.

Daughter of Joseph Bakewell and Sarah Woodhouse. Sister of Benjamin Bakewell. Mother of ten children, of whom six Lewis Atterbury, Sarah Atterbury Wright, Elizabeth Atterbury, William Benjamin Atterbury, Benjamin Bakewell Atterbury, and Robert Bakewell Atterbury survived to adulthood.
