DescriptionKarl Bodmer's Tableau 43Label TextA large camp of Piegan Blackfeet Indians captured the interest of artist Bodmer. He depicted the community of some 800 Blackfeet men with their wives and children. He showed their tipi homes stretched across his image. The tipis extend deep into the distance. The title identifies this location as near Fort McKenzie. That is the only indication of competing interests for the land in this domestic image. The American Fur Company established the fort to protect their commercial interests.
