Label TextIn the foreground, Sharp painted a profile portrait of one of his favorite models, Hunting Son or John Gomez. In the background, dancers participate in the Sundown Dance in front of Taos Pueblo. Author Blanche Grant described it as part of the San Geronimo Fiesta, observed annually on September 29. She wrote, “Dancers hold branches of green and yellow signifying the full season of growth.” It was also an expression of thanks.
