Label TextOn a journey up the Missouri River in 1843, John James Audubon first saw a swift fox, a species found only on the Great Plains of North America. The agent at Fort Clark had captured it in a trap and he gave it to Audubon, who later took it back to keep at his estate in New York. The artist portrayed the fox in a graceful pose.
