DescriptionHorizontal woven tapestry depicting four human female figures holding a long piece of fabric between them and dancing in front of a background of ordered trees.Label TextThe Dancers evokes the links of traditions. Art of Greek and Roman antiquity inspired art of the Renaissance centuries. That art from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries inspired The Dancers. Kleiser’s dancing figures might refer to four of the mythological Muses. They were the goddesses who presided over the arts and sciences. Kleiser set the scene in a verdant landscape and used an elaborate border, a typical pattern for Edgewater Tapestry works.
