Label TextCurtis wrote a biography of Slow Bull, who was Oglala (Sioux). “At seventeen he captured one hundred and seventy horses from Apsaroke. In the same year he received medicine from buffalo in a dream while he slept on a hilltop.” Curtis defined “medicine” earlier in the volume. “As used in connection with the Sioux and other plains tribes the word does not in a true sense imply medicinal properties, but rather spiritual strength.”
