Label TextCurtis photographed Little Plume with his son Yellow Kidney. “The picture is full of suggestion of the various Indian activities.” Curtis called attention to the pipe and accessories on the tobacco cutting board. He mentioned objects hanging from the lodge-poles. Curtis noted the buffalo-skin shield and the long medicine-bundle. He cited the eagle-wing fan and deerskin objects.
In the original version of the photograph, an alarm clock sat among the traditional Indian objects. Before he printed the photogravure, Curtis altered the image. He deleted the clock. In the finished work, no modern object intrudes.
