Label TextCurtis’ final volume was on the Eskimo of Alaska. Volume Twenty was one of his most accomplished works. He found that the peoples had maintained traditional ways of life. He first visited Nunivak Island. He commented on the facial ornaments of this woman. “The nose-ring and labret of beads are typical.” The labret refers to the piercing of the lip.
